Wanaka optometry practice Eyes on Ardmore announces rebrand to ‘OCULA’

Nationally-respected Wanaka optometry practice Eyes on Ardmore has rebranded as OCULA, coinciding with business expansion into Queenstown.

The award-winning Wanaka business, renowned for its investment into innovative and cutting-edge eye care technology, unveiled the new brand name to key clients and healthcare professionals at its Ardmore St premises last night.

“OCULA is a play on the Latin medical term ‘ocular’, meaning a connection with the eyes and vision. Our brand name is designed to be a little obscure, as we didn’t want to be pigeonholed into traditional optometry – we wanted a name that wasn’t going to limit us to the status quo and allow us to continue to push boundaries,” principal optometrist Danielle Ross explains.

“Even though Eyes on Ardmore is a household name in Wanaka, we felt it was too restrictive – not just for location, but also for growth; the brand was no longer true to the innovative and progressive business it has become.”

Ross is the Southern Lakes’ only qualified behavioural optometrist, a contact lens specialist (orthokeratologist), a qualified paediatric optometrist and an eye disease specialist. She bought Eyes on Ardmore in 2011 and has since then invested $250,000 in new, state-of-the-art equipment to prevent and manage eye disease.

“OCULA’s promise is two-fold: The most technologically-advanced eye examinations available by expert optometrists offering leading treatment solutions and, secondly, the finest collection of unique and quality eyewear to help define personality and style. OCULA is benchmarking itself to New Zealand’s and the world’s best, and aims to bring world-class optometry to Wanaka and Queenstown,” Ross says.

She recently purchased Queenstown optometry practice Bridgman & Dean and will launch OCULA in a new premises in central Queenstown next month.

“A second boutique is our natural evolution,” Ross explains. “Over the past five years, we have been growing rapidly. Expansion enables us to continue this momentum and bring on a number of key personnel that will help manage our development into the next growth period. Growth allows us to continue reinvesting into the business – for our staff in terms of training, getting more cutting-edge of technology for the benefit of our patients as well as using the profits of smart business to further philanthropic causes.”
