Five ways to increase your social media interaction

Social media is a fantastic business tool if used well. It gives you the ability to create a personality around your brand, and market yourself in a much more interactive way than traditional channels.

With interaction being the name of the game, here are five tips to ensure you get the most out of your chosen social media channels.

1. Content is king!
Social media is all about sharing ideas and content. The more likeable and interesting your posts are, the more likely it is that they will be shared. Use as much interactive content as you can. Different types of media such as photos and videos give your page some individuality. Think to yourself ‘would I share this?’ If the answer is no, it might well be time to go back to the drawing board.

2. Keep it regular
This is a biggie. If you are going to put time and effort into setting up a social media identity, be it on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or any other of the myriad of options, you need to regularly post new material. Nothing looks worse than a stagnant page on social media, so ensure you always have new (and interesting) content to share.

3. Make a posting schedule
As with all things in business, it always pays to have a plan. Social media is no different and, by putting a bit of thought into what you are going to post, you can make your life significantly easier. Look at your calendar, map out what events are coming up and be sure to promote them to you fans. Look at what else is happening that your target market could be interested in and share it.

4. Work out a brand personality
Decide on the voice you want to have and use it consistently to create a personality around your brand. Try to be more chatty and informal than you might otherwise be in other channels. Embrace this and have fun with it, share fun material, and interact with your audience.

5. Talk to your audience
One of the great things about social media is the ability to interact directly with your customers. You should be asking questions of your followers: what do they want to see, what do they want more of? Run competitions and reach out to other related businesses or industry personalities – you will be surprised at the results.
